The Advisory Board Council

The Advisory Board Council serves two functions:

  1. Providing strategic advice to the Ministerial Forum and assist in achieving g7+ purposes consistent with the principles of Volunteerism, Solidarity and Cooperation.
  2. Help in facilitating national dialogue and reconciliation in member countries in time of crisis.
The experience of Advisory Council members contribute to shaping the strategic direction and organisational development of the g7+. It is comprised of eminent persons such as heads of states/governments (former and/or incumbent). The council was established at the 3rd Ministerial meeting held in Lome, Togo in May 2014.
H.E. Xanana Gusmao

H.E. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão

H.E. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão was selected as the first member of the Council. As a Former President and Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, H.E. Gusmão’s role has been important in establishing and supporting the g7+. He has represented the group in high level missions and other forums.

Dr. Jose Ramos Horta

H.E. Dr. Jose Ramos Horta

H.E. Dr. Jose Ramos Horta, President of Republic of Timor Leste, and co-recipient of the 1996 Nobel Peace Prize for working “towards a just and peaceful solution to the conflict in East Timor”, was appointed as a special envoy of the g7+ at the g7+ 5th Ministerial Meeting that was held in Lisbon in June 2019.

H.E.Emilia Pires

H.E Emília Pires

H.E Emília Pires was appointed as special envoy of the g7+ group from 2014 - 2018. She assists the chair and the group by providing advice on related matters. Given her experience as the former chair of the g7+ and having played a critical role in founding the group, Madam Pires represented the group in relevant fora. She was Timor-Leste’s Minister of Finance since April 2007 until 16 February 2015. In July 2012, Ms. Pires was appointed by the Secretary-General of United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, to the 26-member High-level Panel of Eminent Persons advising the United Nations on the post 2015 Global Development Agenda. Further appointments of the members of the Council will be made soon.
