Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Timor-Leste Referendum Day

 

Twenty years ago, on 30 August 1999, in a remarkable show of courage and resolve, the people of Timor-Leste exercised their right to self-determination and voted overwhelmingly for independence. On 30 August 2019, Timor-Leste will officially mark this date and celebrate the 20^th Anniversary of the Popular Consultation. The event will begin from 26 August to 30 August 2019. The 20^th Anniversary of the Popular Consultation also marks a significant milestone for Timor-Leste. As well as celebrating the anniversary of the birth of our nation, it also provides a special occasion to acknowledge the role that our friends and supporters have played in our development over the past two decades.
