During the five-day mission, the delegation will engage with senior government leaders and key national institutions, including the Prime Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, National Parliament, Ministry of Finance and Treasury, Ministry of Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification, Ministry of Traditional Governance, Peace and Ecclesiastical Affairs, Ministry of National Planning and Development Coordination, Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs, and Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology and development partners and Civil society organization.
Following the 6th g7+ Ministerial Meeting, held in April 2025 in Dili, Timor-Leste, where Solomon Islands was appointed Chair of the g7+ for a two-year term, from January 2026 to December 2027. The Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of Liberia were appointed as Deputy Chairs for the same period.
As Chair, Solomon Islands has a critical role to shape the g7+ agenda, strengthen solidarity among member states, and elevate the organization’s visibility and influence at regional and international levels. The mission comes at a time where collective advocacy and peer learning among member countries is more important than ever.
The delegation will also discuss preparations for the upcoming g7+ Summit, scheduled for 23 September 2026 on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, which will provide an important platform for members to reaffirm the g7+ commitment to peace, resilience, and country-led development.
The g7+ has previously conducted two missions to Solomon Islands. The first mission took place in April 2024 when the g7+ sent Election Observation Mission led by the Papua New Guinea Electoral Commissioner to observe Solomon Islands General Election. Following the successful appointment of Solomon Islands as the chair of g7+ in 2025, the g7+ Secretariat organized a peer learning mission bringing high-level delegation from the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of Timor-Leste to learn and share experiences with the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification of Solomon Islands, which resulted in the agreement to establish government to government Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between two member states.
