The g7+ Secretariat received a financial contribution of USD 50,000 from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Timor-Leste. The contribution was officially handed over by H.E. Wang Wenli, Ambassador of China to Timor-Leste, to the General Secretary of g7+, Dr. Helder da Costa, during a Christmas lunch organized by the g7+ Secretariat on 13 December 2024. The event took place at the g7+ Headquarters in Dili, Timor-Leste.

The occasion was graced by the presence of H.E. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, Prime Minister of Timor-Leste and Eminent Person of the g7+, along with several Ministers from the IX Constitutional Government who were invited to the Christmas lunch.

In his remarks, Dr. Helder da Costa expressed gratitude for the generous support from the Chinese Embassy. He emphasized that such contributions will further enable the g7+ to pursue its priorities and expressed hope for expanded cooperation with China, particularly through sharing experiences and best practices.

Ambassador Wang Wenli applauded the g7+ for its role in promoting peace and inclusive global governance. Highlighting China’s commitment as the second-largest contributor to the UN Peacekeeping Fund, Ambassador Wenli reaffirmed China’s dedication to peace and win-win cooperation. She assured continued collaboration between the Chinese Embassy and the g7+ Secretariat.

The g7+ has previously received support from other development partners and member countries, including Timor-Leste, its largest donor. These partnerships have facilitated peer learning and knowledge exchange.

As part of its strategic plan for 2025, which was presented during the event, the g7+ aims to strengthen cooperation with China in key areas such as poverty eradication and food self-sufficiency, drawing on China’s remarkable progress and expertise. ENDÂ
