General Secretary, Dr. Helder da Costa and Ms Ana Caetano, Legal Advisor accompanied by the g7+ Focal Point in Guinea-Bissau, Mr. Francisco Perreira met with the President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, H.E. Umaro Sissoco Embalo.

The g7+ Secretariat led by General Secretary Dr. Helder da Costa, accompanied by Dra Ana Caetano, Legal Advisor paid an official visit to Guinea-Bissau on 12-15 July 2022, to meet with the leaders of the country include President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, H.E. Umaro Sissoco Embalo, President of National Assembly, H.E. Cipriano Cassama, Prime Minister H.E. Nuno Gomes Nabiam, Vice Prime Minister H.E. Soares Sambu, Minister of Environment H.E.Viriato Cassama, Secretary of State for Planning H.E. Monica Boaro; Ambasador of the African Union to Guinea-Bissau Viriato, and the Eureopean Union Ambassador, Dra Sonia Neto.

 

The objectives of the meetings include: congratulating the people of Repubic of Guinea-Bissau (an active member of g7+) on its presidency of ECOWAS, seeking the Head of State´s participation in the upcoming High-Level Side event of g7+ in the margin of the UN General Assembly in New York in September 2022, and advocating for peace and stability at the country level.

The leaders of the country pledged to continue support the g7+, participating in the upcoming UNGA and the side event of g7+ and commit to ratifying the g7+ Charter after the new legislature established post-elections scheduled to take place in December 2022. We hope for a free, fair, and peaceful election for the people and the government of Guinea-Bissau. Overall, it has been a very productive visit exchanging views on the current situation with the leaders of Republic of Guinea-Bissau.
