Today, the g7+ Secretariat is pleased to welcome the WTO Accession delegation, consist of Timor-Leste working Party Chair, Ambassador Rui Carreira, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Timor-Leste to Geneva, H.E. Lurdes Bessa, Director, Accessions Division of WTO, Ms Maika Oshikawa and Ms. Anna Varyanik, Legal Affairs Officer, Accession Division at the g7+ Headquarters in Dili, Timor-Leste.

In his intervention, Ambassador Rui Carreira shared the progress of the Timor-Leste accession and said the country has really sped the process enomoursly over the last year. The finding shows that there is a strong national consensus and political will from the Government, Private Sector and CSO, a very positive note for Timor-Leste to finalize the process this year and joining WTO next year.

We were grateful to have the video message of H.E. Dr. Francis M. Kai-Kai, Minister of Planning and Economic Development of Sierra Leone and Chair of g7+ and Dr. Luis Amado, Former Minister of Defence and Foreign Affairs of Portugal.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the speakers and moderators for an engaging and lively panelist discussion. First panel discussion was led by H.E. Fidelies Magalhães, Minister for Presidential of Council Minister of RDTL, Mr. Roy Trivedy, UN Resident Coordinator, Dr. Dionísio Babo Soares, Former Minister of Justice and Foreign Affairs of Timor-Leste and our dear Moderator, Carmeneza Monteiro.

 

Second panel discussion was moderated by Lusa Jornalist, Mr. Antonio Sampaio with Dr. Aurelio Guterres, Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Milena Pires, Former Timor-Leste Ambassador to the United Nations, Dr. Joao Saldanha, President of Joao Saldanha University and Dr. Pedro Klamar Fuik, Director of Institute of National Defence.
