Statement of Appeal for Peace

Escalating Conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan and the Wider Regional Implications

The group of Seven Plus (g7+) express its grave and urgent concern over the intensifying conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Pakistan’s airstrikes, which have resulted in the tragic loss of innocent citizens highlight the immense human toll of this violence. We offer our heartfelt condolences and steadfast solidarity to the families and communities impacted by these devastating events and the subsequent clashes, especially as they occur during the holy month of Ramadan—a sacred time dedicated to patience, restraint, and peace. Such acts of violence undermine prospects for peace and stability, not only in Afghanistan and Pakistan, but throughout the entire region.

Afghanistan, as a founding member of the g7+, has endured decades of turmoil marked by war, instability, pervasive poverty, and multiple humanitarian crises. The renewed escalation of conflict only exacerbates the suffering and hardship of its people. We emphatically urge all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint and to refrain from any actions that might escalate tensions further. Lasting solutions can only be achieved through sincere dialogue and peaceful negotiation. Afghanistan and Pakistan are not only neighbors but also share a deep-rooted aspiration for peace and stability, especially among the communities living along their shared border. The well-being and future of their citizens depend on a commitment to cooperation, mutual respect, and the cessation of hostilities.

Furthermore, the g7+ is profoundly alarmed by the ongoing and recent escalations of conflict in the Middle East. We collectively call for all involved parties to avoid any further escalation and to prioritize diplomatic engagement over military action. The ripple effects of intensified conflict in the region would have far-reaching consequences—not only for the immediate parties but for global peace and security. The world cannot afford another humanitarian catastrophe. The time to act for de-escalation, constructive dialogue, and reconciliation is now.

As members of the g7+, many of whom have experienced the devastating impacts of conflict firsthand and understand the long-lasting consequences of war, we strongly appeal to the United Nations, regional actors, and international organizations to intensify their efforts in mediating the conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan and addressing the broader regional tensions.

The g7+, founded on a vision for enduring peace, stands ready and willing to contribute in every possible way to advance peace, reconciliation, and stability. We urge all stakeholders to come together in the spirit of solidarity and shared humanity to address these conflicts through dialogue and diplomatic means. Only through collective action and unwavering commitment to peace can we ensure security and prosperity for generations to come.
